Former Barcelona and Cameroonian legendary footballer Samuel Eto’o has emerged victorious after a significant legal battle within the realm of African football was settled by the Court of Arbitration (CAS).

This paved way for Eto’o to contest CAF elections in Egypt on March 12, 2025.

Eto’o was cleared by the CAS the Confederation of African Football (CAF) judicial processess found him guilty of match-fixing allegations in addition to his supposed link to a sports betting platform.

This decisive ruling overturns a previous decision that imposed a $200,000 fine on the former Cameroonian international.

CAS found that the CAF Disciplinary Jury lacked the authority to address ethical matters, which are strictly under the purview of an independent Ethics Committee.

As a result, the earlier ruling from June 27, 2024, has been annulled, restoring Eto’o’s reputation in the sport.

Eto’o’s legal team released a statement highlighting this development, signaling a crucial turn in his ongoing commitment to integrity in football.

The outcome not only affects Eto’o’s career but also reflects on broader ethical standards in the sport across the continent.
